It all begins with an alphabet

About Us

Akhar is building the foundational infrastructure required for languages to exist, evolve, and remain coherent in the age of intelligence.

As AI systems increasingly mediate knowledge, communication, and memory, languages cannot survive on approximations, retrofits, or surface-level support. They require native-grade lexical, semantic, and computational foundations that respect their scripts, structures, and internal logic.

Our work is long-term by design. We are not building tools for short-lived use cases, but infrastructure that languages can stand on for decades to come.

Our Purpose

Akhar exists to ensure that languages remain coherent, computable, and first-class in the age of artificial intelligence.

For historically rich languages, digitization alone is not preservation. Without deep, native computational foundations, languages risk fragmentation across scripts, platforms, and AI systems. Akhar is building the infrastructure required to prevent that outcome.

We begin at the most elemental layer: alphabets, scripts, and symbolic representation. From there, we design systems that allow language to be encoded faithfully, reasoned over intelligently, and carried forward without loss of integrity across digital and AI-native environments.

Our work is grounded in stewardship, long-term research, and respect for linguistic continuity, including Panjabi and other languages whose future depends on more than surface-level support.

AI Safety

Akhar maintains a dedicated, non-profit research group focused on foundational questions in artificial intelligence safety.

This group operates alongside Akhar’s broader applied and commercial work, with a clear mandate to study alignment, interpretability, and emerging risks in advanced AI systems. Its role is not product development, but long-term research into how intelligent systems behave as they scale, and how safety considerations can be embedded early rather than retrofitted later.

The non-profit group helps ensure that Akhar’s technical progress remains aligned with societal well-being, trust, and responsible deployment. While modest in size, it plays a central role in guiding research priorities and informing decisions across the wider organization.
